🍴 Frequently Asked Questions
1. How does weekly meal prep work?
Your Personal Chef takes care of the entire process.
We get to know your household, preferences and dietary needs, then your chef creates your menu, shops for groceries, cooks in your home and cleans the kitchen before leaving.
You are left with personalized meals ready for the days ahead.
2. How much does weekly meal prep cost?
Regular Meal Prep is $380 per service, plus a minimum $20 travel fee, groceries and GST.
Weekly and bi-weekly clients receive the same service. The difference is simply how often your chef comes.
3. Can I try weekly meal prep before committing?
Yes.
If you would like to experience the service before committing to ongoing weekly or bi-weekly meal prep, you can book a Casual 7 session first.
Casual 7 gives you a full meal-prep experience with up to 5 main dishes plus 2 breakfast or snack items, but without an ongoing commitment.
It’s a good way to see how in-home meal prep works and whether it is the right fit for your household before moving into Regular Meal Prep.
4. How much food is included?
Regular Meal Prep includes up to:
- 5 main-course menu items
- 2 breakfast or snack items
- Up to 6 portions of each menu item
Menus are customized to your household, so the exact mix of meals can vary depending on your needs.
5. What if I only want one meal prep session?
Our Casual 3 & Casual 7 services are designed for one-time or occasional meal prep without an ongoing commitment.
Casual 3 is a smaller session with up to 3 main dishes.
Casual 7 provides a fuller meal-prep session with up to 5 mains plus 2 breakfast or snack items.
6. Do you accommodate allergies, dietary needs or picky eaters?
Yes. Every menu is customized around your household.
Our chefs regularly work with food allergies, intolerances, dietary preferences, cultural preferences and families where not everyone eats the same foods.
For serious allergies or celiac disease, we will talk with you about your specific needs before service.
7. Do I need to be home while my chef is cooking?
Not necessarily.
Many Regular Meal Prep clients provide their chef with a door code, key or another agreed way to access the home.
You are always welcome to be home, but you do not need to stay for the entire service.
8. Who buys the groceries?
For Regular Meal Prep, your chef shops at one grocery store as part of the service.
Groceries are charged separately at cost.
For Casual Meal Prep, grocery shopping is optional and can be added to your booking.
9. Do you offer private dining and in-home events?Yes.
We provide customized private dining and in-home event services for everything from intimate dinners to larger gatherings.
Menus and pricing are created specifically for each event based on the number of guests, menu style and service required.
10. Do you offer cooking classes?Yes.
Our chefs offer private cooking classes and interactive food experiences in homes and other suitable locations.
Classes are customized around the group, skill level and type of experience you are looking for.
11. How far ahead should I book a private dinner or event?
Earlier is always better, particularly for weekends and popular dates.
Smaller events can sometimes be accommodated with shorter notice depending on chef availability, while larger or more involved events benefit from additional planning time.
Contact us as soon as you know your preferred date and we can check availability.
12. How do you choose my Personal Chef?
We match clients and chefs based on several factors, including:
- Location
- Schedule
- Food preferences
- Dietary needs
- Type of service
- Chef experience and strengths
For ongoing meal prep, finding the right fit is especially important because your chef gets to know your household and preferences over time.
13. What areas do you serve?
Our primary service areas are Calgary and Edmonton, including many surrounding communities.
Travel fees vary depending on location.
If you are outside the city, contact us and we can let you know whether we currently have a chef available in your area.
14. Where can I see sample menus?
Visit our Sample Menus page to see examples of dishes prepared by our chefs for meal prep, private dining and events.
Every client menu is customized, so the examples are meant to give you an idea of the variety and style of food our chefs prepare
15. Do you deliver prepared meals?
No. All My Take Home Chef services are prepared in your kitchen.
Our chefs do not cook food offsite and deliver it later. Whether you book weekly meal prep, Casual 3 or 7, a private dinner, an event or a cooking class, your chef comes to your home and prepares the food there.
This allows the service to be personalized to your household, your kitchen and your preferences — and means your food is prepared fresh in your home.
